Why Entertainment Will Help You Sell More Information Products

People read for two basic reasons, because they want to learn something, and because they want to be entertained. They might enjoy a good story and settle down to let Stephenie Meyer whisk them off into a vampire adventure. Or they might prefer to pick up a copy of the National Enquirer and find out which three-headed alien is dating Brittany Spears. Either way, they're looking for entertainment. Remember this when you're crafting your next information product and increase your chances of making it sell.
There are of course many ways that you can make your writing entertaining, but in this article we'll look at just four. Four ways you can engage your reader and make reading your content an enjoyable experience.
1. Analogies
Using analogies is a great way to keep your content flowing. That is to say, compare one item to another. For example you could say that: "writing is easier for some than for others". Or you could say that: "Great authors swing words like Tiger Woods swings a 5-iron". Which one do you think is the more entertaining read?
2. Humour
When it comes to enjoyment, a little chuckle goes a long way. You could build on your analogy by saying that: "poor writers swing words like Oprah Winfrey swings a 5-iron". I am of course assuming that Oprah Winfrey's golf swing is as poor as mine!
I'm not saying you need to attempt to be Jay Leno, just make an effort to inject some humour into your writing every now and then. Steer clear of offensive jokes of course, but keep your writing light hearted and fun.
3. Acronyms
Another way to keep your writing light hearted and enjoyable to read is to use acronyms. You might tell people: "How to Keep Affiliates A.C.T.I.V.E." where the word active reveal parts of the content. It keeps your content unique and readers love them.
4. Storytelling
A good story will always engage a reader, especially when it is relevant to the message you are trying to deliver. I read an article on affiliate marketing once that was written by Jimmy D. Brown where he talked about the days when he used to sell a newspaper, and then he tied it into the fact that it was an early form of affiliate programme model. Keep the stories short and lively and they'll add to your writing.
So there you have it. A few simple but effective ways to entertain your readers and make reading your information product a more enjoyable experience for them.
